Transforming work styles, strengthening responsibility, and ensuring effective implementation—the Municipal Fisheries, Fishermen, and Fishing Vessel Administration successfully concluded the 2022 annual fishery resource enhancement and release event.

Using boats and ships as our means of transportation, we cultivate the sea and fish and farm marine resources. Since ancient times, the ocean has been a vital “blue granary” and a treasure trove of resources for humanity. In 2022, the Municipal Fisheries, Fishermen, and Fishing Vessel Administration, guided by Xi Jinping’s Thought on Ecological Civilization, earnestly implemented the “Outline of China’s Action Plan for the Conservation of Aquatic Biological Resources,” with the goal of building a green and sustainable marine ecological environment and promoting high-quality development of marine fisheries. To this end, the administration continuously strengthened its sense of responsibility, intensified enforcement efforts, raised work standards, and carried out the 2022 annual fishery resource enhancement and release activities in a solid and orderly manner.

This fishery resource enhancement and release event kicked off on May 23 at Gaolicheng Fishing Port in Mingyang Subdistrict. In successive releases at Gaolicheng Fishing Port and Zhuanghe Port, a total of 602.6887 million Chinese shrimp larvae, 31.0989 million three-spined crab larvae, and 2.1561 million brown flounder larvae were released. These juvenile species are all locally dominant species well-suited to the waters of our city, characterized by high survival rates after release and strong market demand.

Regarding this release event, many fishermen expressed that in recent years, our city’s fishery resources have become increasingly scarce, and some fish species have even disappeared altogether. Fisherman Liu Zhiguo said, “Releasing and replenishing fish stocks benefits fishermen—we firmly support it and wholeheartedly welcome it.”

The sea remains silent yet gives rise to all things. By carrying out activities to replenish and release fishery resources, we have effectively restored the marine ecological environment, rebuilt aquatic populations, improved population structures, and preserved aquatic biodiversity. This has greatly helped to replenish the declining fishery resources in nearshore waters, ensured the sustainable development of the fisheries sector, optimized the structure of the fisheries industry, and achieved increased efficiency in fisheries and higher incomes for fishermen. Moving forward, the Municipal Fisheries, Fishermen, and Fishing Vessel Administration will continue to intensify efforts to conserve aquatic biological resources, crack down rigorously on illegal fishing activities, further build social consensus, and jointly create a beautiful home where humans and aquatic life coexist harmoniously, thus contributing to the building of a strong maritime city.
