Blue Alert for Heavy Rain

        The Dalian Meteorological Observatory issued a Blue Alert for Heavy Rain at 08:00 on August 14.

From noon on August 14 to the morning of August 15, northern Jinxin New Area, Changxing Island Economic Zone, Pulan District, Wafangdian City, and Zhuanghe City are expected to experience heavy rainfall (50–100 millimeters), with some areas seeing very heavy rainfall (100–150 millimeters). In particular, certain townships or subdistricts in Pulan District and Zhuanghe City may see rainfall amounts as high as 150–250 millimeters. Meanwhile, Dalian city proper, southern Jinxin New Area, Lushunkou District, and Changhai County will experience heavy rain (25–50 millimeters), with some townships or subdistricts experiencing torrential rain (50–100 millimeters). The maximum hourly rainfall is expected to be between 40 and 60 millimeters.

 

The main period of rainfall will be from late afternoon on the 14th to early morning on the 15th. In the urban area, rainfall will begin around noon on the 14th and end across the city by noon on the 15th.

During the rainfall, localized areas will experience thunderstorms, short-term heavy rainfall, thunderstorm winds (with maximum instantaneous wind speeds reaching levels 8 to 10), and hail—characteristic of severe convective weather.

 

Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms

       The Dalian Meteorological Observatory issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms at 08:59 on August 14, 2022:

In the next 1 to 2 hours, thunderstorms are expected in Dalian urban area, central Bohai Sea, Bohai Strait, and northern Yellow Sea. These storms will last for 3 to 4 hours and may be accompanied by short-term strong winds, hail, and intense localized rainfall—severe convective weather conditions. Relevant authorities are urged to take necessary precautions against lightning strikes. Members of the public are advised to minimize outdoor activities, securely close doors and windows, and stay away from energized equipment such as power lines as well as other similar metallic structures.

 

Gusts can reach up to levels 7 to 9.

From noon on August 14 to noon on August 15, the Dalian area and surrounding waters will experience relatively strong winds blowing from the south to southwest. The period of strongest winds will be during the night of August 14, with gusts reaching up to Force 8–9 in offshore areas and up to Force 7–8 inland.
